Cole Smith Weekend Writing 12/5/15 Prompt #38

Do we spend to much time playing on our smartphones?
As our technology evolves more and things get smaller and smaller while still getting even more powerful in their performances, we have started to use our portable devices to play games. Mainly we use our smartphones to play these games due to their high performance and how they are omnipotent at almost everything we need to do. Also, many of the games available for phones are completely free so people do not have to worry about spending money for enjoyable games. I am pretty sure that most people who are reading this know about games like Candy Crush Saga and Clash of Clans. And who could forget Angry Birds. Each one of those games listed above were very simple games where you match colors, build defenses, or play with a slingshot, but they became extremely famous games with billions of downloads. Many of these games also can connect to social media services like facebook, twitter, and instagram so you can share your progress and connect with friends. One can theorize that these games could be the next generation of MMOs as well. If that is the case, I would be rather sad. I am a big fan of MMOs for the PC and the content is just not the same on the phones. But other than my personal opinion, these games will take quite some power from the phone as they both run their content and send data to and from the game servers. This can and most likely will shrink the battery life on the phones. we already know that the more things we run on a device will deplete the device’s battery faster, so by playing these games on the go, you run the risk of depleting your battery and cutting off one of your main forms of communication until you get somewhere where you could charge your phone back up. It would be much better if the phone’s battery gets lengthened and/or the efficiency of the power consumption for these games gets increased.
